Claude Code Has an Awesome Feature We Rarely Use
Long chats with Claude Code are where the real work happens. One session can hold a bug hunt, a redesign and a release.
But the longer the chat, the harder it gets to find anything in it.
If you use Claude Code a lot, you probably know this one:
1. You give it a task.
2. It answers.
3. You're not happy with one detail, so you ask for a fix.
And instead of fixing that detail, it rewrites the whole answer from step 2. Now you have two versions and no idea which parts changed. You only wanted a fix.
So you start scrolling up. You copy and paste the old answer back in. It's a mess.
What you really want is to point Claude at one exact spot in the chat instead of scrolling and pasting.
And the mess grows with the chat:
- one chat ends up holding several topics, and its title no longer says what happened in it
- it gets hard to jump back to an earlier topic
- it gets hard to point Claude at the exact part you talked about earlier
Renaming the chat is the first line of defense. It rarely helps in a very long one.
Luckily, Claude Code has a feature not many people know about: chapters.
